The nurses came to draw blood to run tests on Tom's liver function and ammonia level status so it will be a couple of hours before we have those results.  The plan is "supportive care" until the liver is functioning better and the ammonia level is lower.  Tom is thirsty so we are giving him as much water and Sprite as he is willing/able to drink - which is a lot.  He's also had another Popsicle - cherry!  We're visiting him more often now so we can fill him with plenty of fluids - this will also help his sodium level which is a bit high.  Kidney function is great.  They continue to give him antibiotics as well as magnesium, phosphorus, and potassium intravenously since these nutrients get depleted by the antibiotics.

Tom is not quite as alert as he was yesterday.  When the stomach doctor said this, Tom said "really?"  I told him not to get discouraged - it is not a bad thing.  He's tired today too but then again, he had some rough experiences yesterday.  ESPN is the channel of choice at the moment (go figure).  Although I think he will enjoy being able to watch every play of the Masters next weekend, I didn't have the heart to tell him he would still be here then.

  1. Last night I got an email from a "Monk" friend of mune at the Monestary here in Conyers. He had been on retreat for 3 weeks and just read my email. So, the "boys" are on their knees 4 times a day, and Tom is among their daily focus.
