STABLE

Well, it's been quite a while since the last update - sorry if you've been checking the blog.  Many of you have probably given up on me.

For the most part, Tom is stable.  He's seen all of his doctors in the past month and they are all very pleased with how he is doing.  Building strength seems to be the most challenging for Tom.  Although the swelling has not been a problem for the past 30 days or so, he has been dealing with a bit of it lately.  That extra fluid requires much more effort for him to get around.

It seems that the nerve pain in Tom's fingers is getting better.  This is certainly been a constant prayer of mine.  His feet still hurt but I think they might be getting better as well.  The doctor said it would take a while for this medication to work so maybe we just need to be more patient.  Tom will be seeing a neurologist in October for a check on this.

Other than that, we have been moving along.  I try to think of opportunities for Tom to get out of the house and "push his limits" - those trips tend to take a little more time than normal.  This is not always easy after working all day and then needing to take care of puppies, dinner and other things at home.  (Of course, we all struggle with getting everything done so I know this is not unique to us.)  Tom is pitching in and helping more which is wonderful.  I understand his hesitation in pushing himself when he is alone so I guess it's good for him to wait for me to be there.  At times I wish we had a full-time physical therapist/drill sargent that would work with him constantly.  I know how hard it is to motivate yourself to work-out.

My parents came to stay while I went to Indianapolis on business a couple of weeks ago.  We are so blessed to have help from family.  It was nice to have a night away but I missed not being home to visit.  Fortunately they stayed a couple of extra nights.

Well, I guess that's all the news (our lives are pretty dull, huh?).  Finley turned 1 on Friday and Fritzi will turn 1 on the 25th so I guess we should not be calling them "puppies" anymore.  They continue to amuse us and keep us on our toes.  Now, if we could only get them completely potty-trained . . .
