In hospital

Tom went to the hospital this morning. His back was hurting him so bad this morning he couldn't move. He has a 20% compression in his lower back which is normally treated with rest and physical therapy. He is currently getting an MRI to check for nerve issues, infection and such. We presume this happened when he fell last week - guess he should have gone to the hospital after all. Please pray that it's not any more serious. He's been assigned a room in the bone/joint center and it's the nicest room we've had here! It's similar to the rooms at UAB. His tv even has a DVD player so I'll bring him some movies. Maybe that will help keep him occupied during his stay. After being at home all weekend last weekend, I have a bunch of stuff that really needs to get done so he may be on his own for longer periods of time. They have a gym right here on the floor for physical therapy. I guess the only downside is training a new set of nurses, techs and docs! They gave him some morphine in the ER but it didn't seem to help much. I brought him a pain pill last night but he didn't take it. His white blood cell count and ammonia level are both elevated. He is not confused or anything, yet. He hasn't had any of his meds today. he is still holding a lot of fluid, I think more in his legs than any place else. Maybe they will get more of that out while he is here too. I was hoping Dr. Rutland might come by at lunch but since Tom is not in the room yet, we may have to wait until the end of the day. Until the pain is better, it's going to be pretty rough for Tom so your prayers for him are appreciated.
